    3D Printing for Aerospace

    1. 3D printing materials commonly used in the field of aviation

    Materials suitable for flight include thermoplastic engineering plastics, nylon 12FRHelp, and metal powders (including titanium alloys, aluminum alloys, stainless steel, etc.). Among them, titanium alloy is one of the most commonly used materials for 3D printing in the aerospace industry because it combines the lightness of aluminum with the strength of steel.

    GE used computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D printing software to reduce the weight of the GE9X engine by combining more than 300 engine parts into seven, stacking special materials layer by layer into precise geometries.

    Satair Aerospace Aircraft was able to manufacture airworthiness-certified metal replacement parts through 3D printing technology when faced with manufacturing issues from traditional suppliers

    Honeywell has also successfully certified flow stoppers for aircraft auxiliary power units and buffer air tubes for use in thrust engines through 3D printing, and is committed to developing 3D printing for urban air transportation.

    Military field
    In January 2021, the French company Naval Group printed a propeller using 3D technology. The propeller consisted of five 200-kilogram blades, which were then mounted on the mine explorer Andromeda.
