Filaments Make Perfections

In previous article,we have mentioned the PLA filament---one kind of the most favorite Eco-friendly filaments in printing, which is usually obtained from renewable resources and shows better printing results.

Owing to meet different requirements and adapt to the properties of FDM&UV 3D printers, researchers create kinds of filaments. It is precisely because of the abundant 3D consumables that 3D printing technology can be applied in multiple fields successively.


•  ABS

The ABS filament is the second hottest material after the PLA. ABS has advantages as below. It can resist to high temperature, longtime durability yet the cost is low. Its melt index is higher than that of the PLA and cooling fast. Therefore, it must be heat the printing platform to avoid warp and shrink. However, nothing is totally perfect. ABS has a little smell while printing, so it should be put in somewhere well ventilated.


TPU is a kind of flexible materials which has exceptional tension and pulling force; superior features like toughness and durability. Because of its flexible feature, on the other hand, TPU is more difficult to print and adjust the feeding, especially while using remote feeding printers. And it is commonly used in the manufacture of automotive components, household appliances, medical supplies, and shoes sole, etc.

•   PC

Among the 3D materials, the PC material can be said to be the hardest one which has remarkable mechanical properties. The strength is about 60% higher than that of ABS material; and its temperature resistance is up to 140℃. It should be noted that the water absorption of PC is so strong that when preserving the material, we should pay attention to the environmental humidity, etc. PC material is widely used in bulletproof glass, diving goggles and other extreme environmental products.


PETG is a non-toxic and odorless Eco-friendly material. It has outstanding toughness and high strength impact resistance that include advantages of both PLA and ABS filaments. PETG material has great hydrophobicity so they don’t need to special storage in sealed spaces.

•   Photosensitive Resin

Photosensitive resin is also called UV resin, which is the filament of light-curing printers. UV resin also owns advantages of high strength, waterproof and high temperature resistant. Products of resin printers have a smooth surface and high precision. Hence the UV resin is especially suitable for the making of models.


These materials mentioned above are only a small part of the 3D printing filaments. The 3D printing technology cannot be realized without the assistance of those copious filaments. Therefore, further development of 3D printing filaments would make an immense contribution to 3D printing. We all expect that as more filaments are invented in the future, 3d printing will become more widely known and used by peoples.
